NIGHT CLASS (2023-2024)
A series of sculptural interventions and photographs commissioned by and made onsite at Crawford Art Gallery in Cork. I was drawn to Crawford’s archive’s register of technical classes, from its time as an art college, that often took place at night but were excluded from the institution’s established history. Entering the building with a camera at night alongside the gallery’s caretakers and cleaning staff, I immersed myself in its nocturnal rhythms to construct, reframe, stage and document remnants of past actions. I also explored the fabric of the building; documenting imprints, interventions and the skilled work of technicians and caretakers that had been part of the building’s maintenance for over a hundred years. Night Class created a temporary space within the institution where these previously undocumented and invisible forms of labour were formally acknowledged.
